Freebie: Printable Alphabet Flash Cards

After seeing so many cool ideas for nursery or playroom decoration using alphabet cards, I thought it would be cool to hunt some down. (However in the meantime I have so many other ideas for the nursery that I don't think the cards will fit in such a small room) And obviously they are just as useful when the babies grow up and start learning their letters!

Firstly there's THIS fun set from The Handmade Home.

And today I stumbled across THIS set from Mr Printables.com! Love it! This is exactly what I wanted. Simple and modern. They have tons of fun free stuff on Mr Printables.com like these animal flashcards or these earth vocabulary cards or these number flashcards.

Since it's a rainy Saturday, I think I'll print these out on some cardstock and spend the afternoon on the couch with my scissors! Have a Happy Weekend!

Chinese Cabbage = Little Miss Wimm

It's a new week again. It literally feels like it was only yesterday that I posted about Bub being the size of a cauliflower! Oh how the time flies! It's like what they say, blink and might just miss them growing up! Except in this case I would be quite glad to miss the next few months of big bellies and heat and skip right along to a little munchkin face in my arms... but enough dreaming for one day. Bubby is now as big as a Chinese cabbage... How splendid! So if she was born today I would be holding a Chinese cabbage.

Freebie - I Knew You PDF

I got this idea from another blogger who had done pretty much the same thing (we could say that I copied her). However I didn't like her colours. I love that verse, so I decided to do one myself using basically the same colour scheme as the baby quilt I just made. I printed mine out the size of an A5 (50%) and stuck it in a white Ikea frame. You can download the (better quality) PDF version here.

Elephant Soft Toy Tutorial

Hello Monday!! Schön, dass du wieder da bist!

It's been rather warm here the last few days... A sizzling 38 degrees! but probably 40 degrees in our oven of a roof-top-house. Not fun! Went to the supermarket today to stock up the old fridge. But the vegetable and fruit sections were all looking a bit sad to say the least. The heat is not agreeing with them. So I passed up on the warm smooshy kiwifruit and tomatoes and went with sensible summer food like nachos and guacemole! Yum!

I came across this cute elephant tutorial the other day from Riley Blake Designs. It's pretty easy and would make a great newborn gift! I think I'll make another or a couple more...just to have on hand for those last minute gifts... or to fill Bubby's toy basket which is yet to come into existence.

Third Trimester!

Woohoo! I'm now on the home run! I have officially made it to the much awaited 3rd trimester! Hopefully it will go as smoothly as the first two... and is it too much to ask that if be cut short by a week or two?

Bubby is now the size of a cauliflower. Isn't that lovely!

It's a GIRL!

It's official! We're expecting a little lady! And to celebrate, I made a quilt/blanket!

I might eventually put up a tutorial for this quilt...however this time round like the last 3 times I forgot to take photos as I was going. And we all know that photo tutorials are WAY better than a list of boring steps. But as you can see from the photos, it's incredibly straight forward and easy. Straight lines and all! All you need is some pretty fabric, some batting, a sewing machine and a of couple spare hours...two to be exact!

The seams along the edges are a tad wonky in some spots...but I'm sure she won't mind ;)

Katie Daisy

I must admit, there aren't many artists out there whose work I can sit and scroll through for hours and still be oohing and aahing by the end. Katie Daisy is one of those precious few for me. Although she can be a bit too 'save the earth' for me sometimes, I think she's a great artist. Her colour palette is so fun and lively it makes you want to go outside and jump around under the water sprinkler like a small child (at least that's the feeling I get)! Her fun prints are available on her etsy shop The Wheatfield. But if you're not so much into buying rather than oozing over other peoples handiwork, she has both a website and a blog!

Nursery: Storage Problem Solved

I certainly was not expecting it to take just one sleep. A couple of minutes after adding a bookcase to my Ikea shopping list I came across these awesome Ribba Picture Ledges!

Aren't they fab? Well i think so! Enough to say that the bookcase was immediately taken off the list. They're just what I wanted, and not too sticky-outy from the wall that they would be too weighty for my pathetic walls. Just perfect. They come in two lengths, 55cm and 110cm. I think I'll go with the longer ones and maybe put a few smaller ones around the house. In the craft corner for example. I had no idea Ikea had anything like this! I'm virtually buzzing that my book storage problem is solved!

Nursery: Pom Poms

I've been seeing a lot of these Pom Poms in nurseries lately. When I first saw them, I thought they were incredibly tacky. Like a cheap wedding full of glitter. But now they're actually growing on me...

This last one broke my heart! Love those colours together!

So here is my attempt at a Pom Pom mobile:

I'm actually pretty happy with how they turned out. The pink one is probably about 20cm in diameter just to give an idea of size. So for those who want to give pom pom making a try; for the pink one I used this tutorial. It took about 5 hours haha. So won't be doing that one again in a hurry. The white rose one took about 3-4 hours while watching the new Emma series. And the white netting one took about 2 minutes.

Nursery: Storage Dilemma!

I'm getting to the nitty gritty stage of nursery planning where it turns from cute to practical... :( the nursery is rather small and it has sloped walls on one side slicing it even smaller. I'll be putting baby clothes, towels and nappies in and on top of the dresser. But all the other stuff like books and toys I have no place for... I love the idea of those shelves where the books lean against the wall so little people can see them better. Like this:

or this:

But I'm just not sure if shelves are an option for us. Our walls are pathetic. That's the miserable truth of it all. They're paper thin and spew out all largish objects I hang up. However I have found some other ideas that might just trick the walls into thinking that there's nothing there.

These fabric book holders are pretty funky but still aren't quite as clean and crisp like my precious white shelves.

I'm also loving this basket idea but might look a bit too much...
Hmm...I suppose I could just grab a bookcase from Ikea but then my wall space is gone for other pretties. But I guess I still have a few more nights to think this one over.

Nurseries I'm loving...

26 weeks and we still don't know if it's a boy or girl... I'm starting to go more with girl. My doc says that if next week we still can't see anything, then it's a girl! So I've started to put together in my mind what the nursery will look like for either boy or girl. I've decided not to paint, and just keep it white and crisp with pops of pastel colours. Dusty pink for a girl and light turquoise for a boy. Probably throw a bit of grey or beige in there too. Made my ikea furniture list. Everything is white!
Thought I might share a few nursery ideas I quite like right now. Obviously not every aspect, but you get the idea...

3 Baby Shoe Tutorials

I finally had a go at making my very own baby shoes/slippers. Couldn't decide on a pattern so ended up making three different pairs. I was super surprised at how easy they are. I thought I would be chained to my sewing machine, slaving away for hours on end for these little treasures. But no! They're as simple as pie. Well in saying that, it depends on what pie. But anyway, beside the point, if you have any scrap fabric lying around you must give one of these tutorials a try. There perfect for a baby gift, I might add. Have to say though, the pink ones with ruffles are definitely my favourite!!!

(Note: most baby shoes ask for interfacing of some kind but if you're like me and don't know what the word interfacing is in the country you live in and can't be bothered anymore going to Google Translate to type it in because 9 times out of 10 the fabric store doesn't quite see eye to eye with Google Translates translation, then just replace it with felt or a thicker fabric of some sort)

#1 Reversible Fabric Baby Shoes

These ones turned out a bit flat for some weird reason. But I'm sure they'll fill up nicely when there's some cute chubby feet inside. The tutorial for these Reversible Fabric Baby Shoes from Maked comes in two parts. Tutorial here and pattern here.

#2 Mila Baby Shoes

LOVE these!!! so sweet and frilly! Just what every baby girl needs in her wardrobe!
Tutorial is from Fleeting Thing, which you can happily find here.

#3 Pleated Ballerina Shoes

Not really sure if bub will get much wear out of these, as I made them just a tad too tiny. Oh well, if not, then they'll just have to suffice as nursery decoration 'cause they're too cute to throw away!
This fun tutorial is from Homespun Threads. And you will find it here.

You now have three wonderful tutorials so get shoemaking!
